FATHER'S DAY 2009

This is the first time we're celebrating Father's Day. Nothing big, just a simple card I made for my abah and makan-makan, there were no presents involved even.

But I think there's something not right going on around here, Mummy (yeah, I call Momma Mummy now, sometimes, especially when I'm trying to speak Playhouse Disney English)

This restaurant's awfully empty and quiet, although it's lunch time already. Don't they have a Father's Day special over here?

Hmm, no wonder lah! It's on 14th June lah Momma, Father's Day is not until next week! We 'ter'celebrate early lah then! Hehehe... so malu...

Celebrating Father's Day a week early was even better actually. No crowd, no hype. Just the 3 of us in an empty restaurant. How cool is that?

C-U-T-I

Yeap, I know how to spell CUTI already, thanks to that fun advertisement on Astro Ceria. However, it's a shame that I didn't get to go anywhere this time.

Swimming in a hotel pool where my abah stays for a bowling tournament (for 2 whole weeks!) hardly counts as a school holiday getaway. The hotel was only a 20 minute's drive from our place and we didn't even spend a night there.

Even going grocery shopping with Momma at Giant counts to. Oh yeah, finally I got myself some cool goggles.

And most of time, I stayed close with Momma since daycare was closed for a whole week. My kindy is moving to a new place/house so they needed time to make the move.

This is me at my Momma's office, where she vows never to bring me to ever again. I don't understand what she was talking about, I thought I was a very good girl. I even practiced writing my numbers.

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY, EBI!

Last May 3rd, my beloved cousin Ebi turns 4.

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a smattering of M&Ms.

Ebi & Wan reciting prayers

There you go! Atta girl, Ebi! Lick that knife!

Abang Danish and Kak Syira reciting their speech for Ebi (while Ebi was busy licking away)

Poor Kak Sya was forced to give a speech too (and Ebi kept on lickin' and lickin')

Waaaaaa, I want a bike too!

IKEA, WE-KEA

So here's the continuation of my short KL trip.

After breakfast, my Pak Teh brought us to our hotel which was booked earlier by Tok Bah. My Pak Teh claimed that the char keow teow breakfast we had earlier wasn't filling enough, so he took advantage of the free breakfast buffet. Pffft, alasan untuk menyental, so Momma and I went up to our room, where I lanyak the bed puas-puas and had a fun bath in the tub.

The idea was to get me to nap so that I get my rest before we go out anywhere, but hah, fat chance! It was my Pak Teh and Momma who got their shut-eyes while I layan some cartoons on tv.

As predicted, as soon as I got into the car, I konked out and remained unconcious until much much later, I found myself in this huge beautiful house that had many many little living rooms, and little litle bedrooms. I opened my eyes and I was in this gorgeous super soft mattress with colourful beddings with a huffing and puffing Momma beside me.

Turned out to be, I was in the famous Ikea! and Momma has been carrying me around in various sleeping position until her arms couldn't tahan anymore. Hehe, sorry Momma! If only Pak Teh told you earlier that you CAN put me on the beds that was on display, maybe I didn't give you such a hard time, eh?

So there we were in the much talked about home furnishing haven, a visit we suspected was wickedly planned by Pak Teh to ensnarle us into this homogenic marvel of this globalized Swedish brand. No jakun Penangite should come to KL and not stop by this Disneyland for adults who think they have a taste in design.

Momma wasn't prepared to buy anything actually (well, maybe some windows!) coz she didn't even grab any trolleys or those ingenious creation called the recyclable yellow bags, but she gave in anyway and picked some practical stuff. She was in a good mood enough to sponsor Pak Teh a table top to replace his old bent one.

And oh, the culture shock we had when we got hungry. Pak Teh said we can eat first and continue our shopping later!

This was supposed to be my menu - the 3 ringgit kiddy meal spaghetti.

You think I'd let them go away with that? I insisted on walloping their meal instead, the far-famed Swedish meatballs!

Too bad the playland was full when we got there. I watched in envy as the kids inside formed a conga line and danced to the tune and led by an aunty who shook her booty as if she watched too much 'Dancing with the Stars'.

Good thing we had the one ringgit ice-cream!

So here I am proud to own these kiddy tableware, just like millions of other households around the world.

Gives you a reason to have a party, no?

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

Hello peeps! Hoboy, do I have great news for you guys. By some divine intervention, Momma and I was whisked away to KL to join my Tok Bah and Pak Teh for a special mission. I wasn't so sure of the mission, but what would they tell a 3 year old anyway?

All I knew was when Momma initially asked me whether I'd like to take a trip with her on a train, I was ecstatic coz I still remember my first train ride last holiday season. But somehow, there were changes of plans and early Saturday morning, we left before the crack of dawn to the airport. I was befuddled at first, but somehow I was very well-behaved and even cheery even though I'm not a morning person kid.

Israel pun Israel la Momma, ekonomi memang dah meleset pun kan....?

After Tok Ma and Momma performed their subuh prayers at the surau, Tok Ma left us to fend for ourselves coz she had to attend her usual religious class. We had half an hour to kill before our flight at 6.45 am so what else is there to do when the Golden Arch is right in front of the departure hall? Ordered the big breakfast konon but the eggs were c*appy and Momma even complains of her coffee. I think she missed her own brew of coffee already and feeling c*appy herself.

At 6.45 sharp, we got ourselves into the departure hall and I even enjoyed looking at our bags going through the scan. We waited for a few minutes before we could board the plane, one reason being Momma wasn't so sure what to do with the tickets that looked exactly like shopping receipts to us. When she finally found our IDs, we were one of the last to board the plane.

I was very nervous while we walked towards our flight and was petrified at the sight of the orange and white plane. It wasn't that big, I've seen trucks bigger than that. I commented that I was afraid of flying on a plane coz it doesn't have wheels. Momma had to ask me whether I was OK a few times. When we almost reached the stairs of the plane, the engine suddenly revved up and spooked me big time! I held on Momma's legs until I was dragged a little, and I begged Momma to lift me up. Hehe, poor Momma. I didn't let go until she found our seats.

This was my face before we lifted off. I wasn't amused at all when Momma told me that akak Awan Dania was in front of us showing us the safety maneouver. She couldn't fool me. Akak Awan Dania wears a different coloured uniform lah.

Boring!

I wouldn't let my Momma release her hug around me until I felt my tummy settled. I was very quiet but I sent her my signals through my askance looks. Very icy, I tell you!

Not until the lights to buckle on went out did I relax for a bit. And by golly, was I surprised to see how high we were! I was so high, I didn't realize I shouted "Bye bye Penang!" very loudly when everyone around us were dead quiet! Haha, buat malu kompeni je.

The plane ride took about an hour, so I had plenty of time to spare. Lucky I brought my own backpack containing my books and snacks (and shhhh.... a diaper! how embarrassing!) but Momma gave me a cool pen and a cute notepad to scribble on to practice my letters and numbers. I have perfected my number 6 while on that plane. Hihihihi.

We reached our destination a little before 8 am. Was a lil irritated by that akak who told me to put my table back to the original position. Momma had to hold my notepad for me while I write. While the plane touched down, I didn't even blink! Still engrossed with my writing you see. Sedar-sedar, everybody was getting off already.

We couldn't resist posing in front of the carrier. I wasn't in the mood to smile, I wanna make my Japanese cutie face (small sepet eyes, puckered lips) but Momma wanted me to show my teeth instead. So I came off looking like I'm snarling in the picture. Actually I was about to tell Momma that there were some guys in fluorescent vests with walkie-talkies walking towards us, most probably to shoo us away but luckily Momma got up before they reached us and we walked away fast-fast and buat bodo ajer. Lalalalalala....

I don't know what it is, but when Momma took this shot, it came out very funny. All the colours seem off and unreal. Why ah? Issit the air of early morning in Subang? We've never been out at this hour. Or issit my tak mandi pagi face that spoils the picture?

Momma thought I'd be excited to see some choppers but naaah, I was non-chalant. I've seen choppers Ma, at the air force base where Uncle Zam brought me once. She was like, so annoying lah. Like when I was busy doodling in the plane, she kept telling me to look outside and watch the clouds. I impatiently said, "Nuha tahulah...", like - I know what clouds look like, Ma. Duh.

The airport was eerily quiet. We felt like we're entering a twillight zone or something. That didn't stop me from being notty.

The conveyer belt wasn't moving, so don't worry that I might have tripped and hurt myself. I know how to take care of myself, thank you very much (except when that plane engine revved too loud of course, scary noises get me)

Since nobody was looking (coz nobody was there!) we took a couple more shots.

My Pak Teh was already waiting for us in his car, so it was a quick pick up at the exit. We had another breakfast at Kelana Jaya and off straight to the hotel we went. But that's another story for another day perhaps. More stories coming up, so stay tuned!

60 MINUTES OF FAME

My Tok Bah is a very low profile man, but lately he' getting more news coverage, so I guess what he does must be quite important.

This was us watching him getting his first 60 minutes fame on Bernama TV a couple of weeks ago. Momma, Abah and Nenek were glued to the tv and it irritated me so much so I wanted to watch my cartoon, you see. But it was pretty exciting for us coz all this while, we only got few seconds of him in the news or a picture in the business section in the papers.

So this was totally new to us. And my Tok Bah was talking funny as well - he spoke almost completely in Indonesian slang! Haha, momma jokes that my Tok Bah is indeed multi-lingual. He speaks in English, Arabic, Bahasa Melayu Utara and Bahasa Indonesia. He doesn't speak proper Bahasa Melayu baku like the rest of us, okay!

EARTH HOUR 2009

So what did you guys do last nite, between 8.30pm to 9.30pm?

I've been watching the campaign ads on tv so I'm pretty excited when the time finally came for us to participate. My folks aren't really green oriented but they do try to do their part whenever and wherever convenient to them. However, the fan the the tv remained turned on, or we wouldn't know what else to do around the house!

Oh, we were at Tok Ma's house that night, taking care of my Nenek who was ill. Tok Ma and Tok Bah were out of town to attend my uncle's graduation in JB, so Momma and me had to set up camp there.

FOR CHARITY

Two Saturdays ago, Aunty Zara invited us to attend a charity event at Dewan Millenium, and when we got there, we were greeted by a scary monster.

You bet I was spooked! Momma thought I would have enjoyed this little show, but I clung to her like a koala bear throughout the ordeal.

Momma, to tell you the truth, I've no problems with shrieking pontianaks and long nailed ghouls shown on tv, but dancing lions with creepy eyelashes would give me nightmares later.

We quickly got inside the hall, and lucky me, I got treats to cheer me up, leftovers from the goody bags intended for the guests of honours - the OKUs (yup, Momma taught me this term) and orphaned kids.

Aunty Zara was the ad hoc emcee! Next to her is her aunty who organized the whole show.

The guests. We didn't get a table, but it was fine coz Momma was busy running around taking photos of the event, and I was busy walking around anyway.

Right after the speeches by dignitaries and the launch, there was a special segment where a 2 volunteers shaved their heads bald to raise money.

And after that, we were treated with lots more dancing shows, but I can tolerate ballet.

The ballerinas were so pretty!

More dancing! Anybody who wanted to shake their booties were welcomed to. The stage was full of dancing kids and adults alike, gyrating to the tune of uptempo Mandarin songs!

I danced with this kakak too

And from nowhere, this abang swooped me up and paraded me in front of the stage as if I was lion princess! Oh, the irony.

At the end of the day, I was pooped. It was a joyful occasion and I was very happy to be part of it. Thanks for inviting us, Aunty Zara!

MY FAV CHICKEN RICE

If we're travelling through Seberang Jaya, I never fail to make Momma stop by Tesco coz that's where my favourite chicken rice stall is. It's impossible to miss that huge sign just next to the highway exit.

And I always chose the exact same type of chicken rice, with the sweetish barbecue hainanese sauce.

I could finish the whole serving of rice! The portion for the chicken is big too, so Momma always share the meal with me (she's on protein only these couple of days)

I'm good at finishing my veges too! Hmm hmm good!

MINI ME IN MAXI DRESS

Don't you think this dress is groovy? My Tok Ma made it for me. She's a competent tailor actually, and very talented at making children's dresses, which she used to make a lot when my momma was a small girl. Tok Ma is also very good at knitting, cross-stitching and drawing. Hmmm, momma surely didn't get any of this talents. I wonder if that skips a generation?

If that's so, I hope I get Tok Ma's brains too!
